The Best Wedding Photography Photoshoot Locations in Melbourne
What are Melbourne's most popular and best wedding photography photoshoot locations? There are many places, but below are a list of 12 of some of the more commonly used places. Things to consider when choosing your photoshoot location are the type of scenery, accessibility, lighting, parking and in some cases permits to us the grounds.
1. Gem Pier
Gem Pier in Williamstown is a spacious location with a scenic view of the bay. The cobbled stone road, the wooden pier, the parklands, restaurants and the ships make Gem pier an excellent wedding photography photoshoot location, offering a variety of shots all in one location. A great time saving option.
3. St Kilda Botanical Gardens
Another beautiful location is St Kilda Botanical Gardens, a large area providing beautiful green backgrounds. Featuring a rose garden, a gazebo, a lake and a greenhouse. If you like green backdrops, this is a beautiful location to consider.
5. Parliament House
Possibly the most popular wedding photoshoot location in Melbourne is Parliament House in Melbourne's CBD. The classic architecture featuring intricate stonework, doors, pillars and stairs with the CBD in the background is beautiful. Parking can be quite tough to find, and especially on a Saturday evening you can be sure to find many bridal parties there.
7. Menzies Creek Puffing Billy Railway Station
Further away from the city centre in the Dandenongs is Menzies Creek Puffing Billy Railway. It is a quiet location with the whole station as your photo shoot set. Be sure to ask permission before hand to use the location.
9. Werribee Mansion
Werribee mansion is one of my personal favourite locations, inside and out, the mansion is a stunning piece of architecture. Close by there is also a large rose garden. You will have to book in advance to use the mansion.
11. Victoria Barracks
Featuring the leaves growing on the stone walls, no doubt Victoria Barracks is a beautiful wedding photography photo shoot location. In the evening the whole wall is in the shade making beautiful even light, and in the summer sun makes it a comfortable location. You will require a permit to shoot at Victoria Barracks.
2. Fitzroy Gardens
Probably the most popular park in Melbourne for wedding photography is Fitzroy Gardens. The large open space, well kept gardens and it's close proximity to the CBD make a terrific location. It has reasonably good parking on Wellington Parade which is important as time searching for parking is always a factor on a wedding day with limited time. It's a huge bonus that it is close to Parliament House, which is another huge wedding photo shoot location also.
4. Hosier Lane
Looking for something different from greenery or architecture? Hosier lane features graffiti artwork all around. It can get busy with people wondering around in the background of your shots, the parking is difficult, and is a gamble to find a spot right in front on Flinders Lane. The lighting is even due to the surrounding buildings providing good light for portraits.
6. Williamstown Botanic Gardens
Featuring avenues with landscaped gardens, Williamstown Botanic Gardens provides nice colours and greenery in the background of your photos. The wrought iron gates at the entrance is beautiful too. Parking is easy to find.
8. Luna Park
Luna Park is a popular location too, with it's iconic face is a Melbourne landmark. With the bonus of being close to the beach and public parks, you have the opportunity to get a variety of shots from the one location.
10. Carlton Gardens
Carlton Gardens is a very popular location, the large fountain and the exhibition building are Melbourne landmarks. Parking can be difficult to find, and there are usually many people there. It's possible to get a good variety of classic architecture and parkland shots. Being close to Parliament House is a bonus too.
12. Lakeside Reserve
Although not close to the CBD, I wanted to include Lakeside Reserve in Rowville to show that there are many beautiful parks in Melbourne's suburbs if you don't have time or access to go to Melbourne's more popular locations. Parking is usually very good at these less popular locations, and your photos can still look amazing.
